The popular resorts of Polzeath and Rock are only a few miles away, and the North Cornwall coastal path runs through this pretty village, with its old chapel, fish cellars, Lifeboat station and increasingly up-market shops and restaurants. The sounds of fishing boats starting up their engines and the sea shanty concerts on the village platt drift in through the windows on summer evenings, but this house is set away from the tourist beat, on a secluded side lane. Designer Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen and his wife Jackie are ex tenants, some rooms have been photographed for Jasper Conran’s latest book, Country, and Chicago House was for a time used as school teacher ' Louisa's' house in the popular TV series Doc Martin. For the last fifteen years this has been the holiday home of the author A.N. Wilson and up until this year, the house has only been let to friends and family.

If you want constant vehicular access, or brand new paintwork - some rooms have not been redecorated for fifteen years - or if you have very tiny children and are nervous about stairs - there are no stair gates - then Chicago House may not be the ideal rental for you. We have had fifteen years of going up the lane to retrieve our car, or doing without it, shopping on foot in the village at the well stocked Co-op and in the fish cellars, and walking to the neighbouring beach at Port Gaverne (10/15 minutes ) to swim, picnic and go to the lovely pub. Many very young children including ours have stayed here without pitching down the stairs, and made their own way safely and unaccompanied to the harbour, for rock pools, ices and to hear the St. Breward Silver Band play its summer evening concerts on the Platt, or the Fishermen's Friends singing sea shanties on Fridays.

PARKING
 Although you can take your car down to Chicago House on arriving or departing or to unload luggage the lane outside is very narrow - there is no passing traffic or through road - and no parking at the house itself. There is limited free parking in some of the streets up the hill at the top of the village, and pay parking in the two public car parks.
